Both are posted in Placerville, California and mailed to Port Washington, Wisconsin sometime after 1855. Next is a folded letter 1838 from France to “Danemarck par Hambourg” with lots of interesting markings. Intact and thought provoking. Last is a rare piece. Some sort of royal or court document ornately written and engraved, dated 1746, on heavy velum. Still in beautiful shape. They were issued from 1608 to 1797 with different postmaster names to produce tax revenues to help the city recover from the frequent flooding. Each sheet measure 8 ˝’ x 11 /1/2” and cost 4 soldi. These sheets were the only way to communicate with the Venetian Government. These sheets were used as envelopes.
