The Panamanian steamer Finance owned by the US government outward bound from Colón, Panama was in a collision with the White Star liner Georgic inward bound for New York, off Sandy Hook. The Finance sank within ten minutes with the loss of four lives. Next day a tug picked up a single bag of mail. A label was applied stating “The piece of mail herewith was recovered from the wreck of steamer Finance which was sunk through collision with steamer Georgic, Thursday Nov. 26, 1908.” | Cat.
