| 1569 | | Pioneer flight cover from 1912. Rare example ("only four known"), ("less than ten pieces known to exist today") of the Marietta Daily Journal Aviation Meet cancel on flown card. May 16, 1912. On that day Lincoln Beachey, the postmaster and pilot of a Curtiss biplane, transported a sack of mail from the Marietta County Fairgrounds to the town's post office, depicted on the front side of the card, a trip of about 4 miles. This postmark listed in the American Air Mail Catalog as "number 23 pioneer flight cancel" is rare and desirable. Lightly soiled, but clean, readable strike of this scarce souvenir. | Cat.
