1648CV(1, 5) cent green pair tied with a blue NORFOLK / VA, FEB 1, 1862 on cover to Mrs. E. T. Thomas, Augusta, Georgia. A note at the lower left indicates “opened by mistake E. T.”. Both the left stamp and the cover itself are damaged. The original soldier (Lt. Western Berkley Thomas Jr. of Company K, the Davis Musketeers, 10th Georgia) mailed it from “Pigs Point” along the Nansemond River in the winter of 1862. The transcript of which (done by Kaufman) along with ancillary Civil War information is included with the cover. Also includes a CSA #2 (pen canceled and damaged) on a South Carolina cover.
