These were used to generate revenue to help the city recover from frequent flooding. They could be written on (one is used as a letter) or used as envelopes (14). Most of those that exist today are damaged from long term storage, floods, rodents, etc. These 15 examples are rare survivors of a mail system used over 300 years ago.
