485**German Areas group of 15 souvenir sheets, each consisting of four copies of the parcel admission stamp for the Theresienstadt concentration camp. In late 1943 the Nazis decided to show off Theresienstadt to a committee of the International Red Cross. In anticipation of this inspection, overcrowding was reduced by deportations; library and medical facilities enhanced; a new concert/ recreation hall/ community center was built; and the town was adorned with flowers. The inspection (June 23, 1944) was followed by the making of a propaganda film. Sheets of this type were prepared as gifts for the visiting inspectors. These 15 probable forgeries (offered "as is") are imperf with different RED three digit control numbers at the bottom. A few are sequentially numbered. Odd and unusual.Cat. Value: S.B. 100
