India an outstanding cancel collection that was one man’s 20 year endeavor. It’s mostly mounted and sorted by cancel types or originations and contains over 2,100 items of chiefly 19th and early 20th century vintage. The covers are of particular importance and the cancels are superior as he was constantly upgrading as he accumulated. The breakdown of the majority of the items are as follows: Cooper types and subtypes (934) plus 13 covers, thimbles (15), newspapers (22), 1903 coronation (14), 1911 coronations (16), viceroy’s camp (4), governor’s camp (5), Prince of Wales camp (11), squared circles (147), railroad (123) plus 2 covers, FPO’s (2), Abyssinian field force (3), used in Aden (89) plus one cover, used in Bander Abbas (4), used in Basva (34), used in Burma (145), used in Bushire (33), used in French India (10) plus a partial cover, used in Linga (14), used in Mahommera (4), used in Muscat (3), used in Singapore (16) and used in Zanzibar (30). In addition to this there are a couple hundred listed as various interesting and several dozen on Feudatory issues. All are clear readable and could be the basis for an award winning exhibit. |
